Highlights of the law:
  • All coaches and referees will be required to have concussion training and produce a certificate proving they have completed the training.
  • All parents have been provided a copy of the Youth Sports Concussion Information Sheet.
  • Any participant displaying symptoms of a concussion as determined by a coach, referee or other tournament official will be immediately removed from play and not allowed to return the same day and until they have a written clearance that it is safe for the individual to return to competition from a from a licensed physician or a licensed healthcare provider. How we will comply with the law:
  • All coaches will be required to provide a certificate that they have completed concussion training at registration. Any coach not able to produce that certification will not be allowed to participate.
  • We will provide copies of the Youth Sports Concussion Information Sheet at registration that are to be distributed to the teams parents by the teams coach.
  • Referees will report any player removed from competition for a suspected concussion, on the game card and the player will not be allow to continue participating in the tournament until tournament officials at headquarters, receive a written clearance that it is safe for the individual to return to competition from a from a licensed physician or a licensed healthcare provider.
  • All decisions of tournament officials, referees and coaches regarding the participant continuation in the tournament due to symptoms of a concussion will be supported by the tournament committee.

This law will have a minimal effect on most participants of our tournament since most states already have these laws in place and all Ohio participants will be required to have this training already.

We will be notifying teams already registered of these requirements and our rules have been updated to reflect this law.

For coaches needing to complete this training, the course takes about 20 minutes and is available here:
